The Last Leaf follows two young artists, Sue and Johnsy. When Johnsy falls ill with pneumonia, she becomes convinced she will die when the last ivy leaf outside her window drops. Their elderly neighbor, Behrman, paints a perfect leaf on the wall during a storm to give her hope. Johnsy recovers, but Behrman dies from pneumonia after completing his masterpiece—the painted leaf that never falls.
